How to Back Up Contacts to iPhone SIM? You cannot copy contacts from your phone’s address book to the iPhone SIM card. However, this does not exclude you from backing up your contacts. You just have to approach it differently. Here’s what you should know.

Because the iPhone does not permit saving data to the SIM, no one may directly copy contacts from contacts to SIM cards, therefore the solution may be quite disappointing. However, this does not preclude transferring contacts to a SIM card via a carrier.

Why You Can’t Backup Contacts to a SIM Card on iPhone?

The iPhone does not keep data such as contact on its SIM card since it is unnecessary and does not align with Apple’s concept regarding how customers should use their data.

Because there was no standard, convenient method of backing up or transferring data to new phones, older cell phones saved data to the SIM. SD cards appeared eventually, but not in every phone.

In comparison, the iPhone has two backup options: it creates a backup every time you sync your iPhone to your computer, and you may back up iPhone data to iCloud.

Here is the method to Back Up Contacts to iPhone SIM:

Method #1. Copy Contact to SIM

If you’re serious about cloning contacts to your SIM, there’s just one way to do it: jailbreak your iPhone.

Jailbreaking allows you to access features that Apple does not include by default. Remember that jailbreaking can be a difficult process and is not recommended for individuals with limited technical knowledge. When you jailbreak your iPhone, you risk damaging it or voiding its warranty.

Even if you do this, why bother backing up just your address book? Don’t you want to backup and transfer everything from one phone to another? Your PC and iCloud are far superior in this regard.

Method #2. Transfer Contacts Without a SIM Card

  1. Using a Computer: Transferring your data is part of the setup procedure if you’re replacing your current iPhone with a new one. Simply connect the new phone to the computer that you used to sync the old one, and then restore the backup data to your new phone.
  2. Using iCloud: When configuring a new device, iCloud functions similarly to your computer. Furthermore, if you sync your data to iCloud on one device, every other compatible device that also syncs with iCloud will receive that information immediately.
  3. Using Other Services: If the data you want to transmit is your address book and you’re not trapped in Apple’s ecosystem, the tool you use probably has a straightforward way to do so. You can sync iPhone contacts with Google and Yahoo address books, or if you use a Microsoft Exchange-based solution, your contacts will import automatically when you link your Exchange account.

Method #3. Importing Contact from a SIM Card

One circumstance in which the iPhone SIM card is useful is when importing contacts. While you cannot save data on your iPhone SIM, if you have an existing SIM card with a full address book from another phone, you can import that data onto your new iPhone. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Replace your iPhone’s existing SIM card with the one that contains the data you want to import (make sure your iPhone is compatible with your old SIM).
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Contacts (in iOS 10 and earlier, tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars).
  4. Select Import SIM Contacts.
  5. After that, remove the old SIM card and replace it with your iPhone SIM.
